Mendy: The plan is just to go out there and win

Chennaiyin FC face FC Goa in the final of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday. It promises to be an action-packed encounter between both last year’s losing semi-finalists who have a win each against one another from the league stage. Bernard Mendy, who has been a strong leader at the back for Chennaiyin FC, spoke to in an exclusive interview ahead of the grand finale. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Semi-finalists last year, finalists this year. How do you plan to utilise this second chance?
We don’t have a plan. Tomorrow we go out there only to win. Of course, last year, we did miss something but now the plan is just to go out there and win it.

Do you think Goa have an advantage playing at home?
Of course, Goa have an advantage since they’ll be playing at home. The stadium tomorrow will be jam-packed. They [FC Goa] have a good chance but we’ll also be fighting for the trophy.

What is Chennaiyin FC’s strongest attribute?

In football, you can never know these things. We need to play this match as a whole unit, with our hearts, and only then will we be able to win it.
