Suriya brace helps Chennaiyin FC U-15s to second win of the season

Chennai – The Chennaiyin FC Under-15 team beat the Chennai City FC Under-15s by a 4-1 margin in the 2018-19 Hero Junior League Chennai zone here today. K. Suriya led the charge for CFC with two goals, as his strike-partner Yugan S. and defender N. Sivamani added one each. This was the CFC U-15s’ second win of the season as they took their tally to seven points from four games played so far.

Chennaiyin will welcome Great Goals in their next game on Monday 22nd April 2019, looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat suffered against the latter in their first game this season.

CFC made one change to the starting eleven that drew with FC Madras in their previous outing. It was in defence, as Aravind Karthickeyan came in for N. Suriya to partner Sivamani.

It was an eventful start to the game, especially for CFC striker K. Suriya. The attacker had two good chances to open the scoring, but he was wasteful on both occasions. CFC were then awarded a penalty for a foul in the CCFC box, however Suriya’s effort from the spot was saved by the keeper.

Suriya then did redeem himself, with the half-hour mark approaching. The striker was alert to pounce on a rebound after a CCFC clearance fell his way. He made no mistake this time, as CFC went 1-0 up.

The hosts continued to be wasteful in front of goal, creating a flurry of opportunities but lapsing in the final third. There was no lapse though in the 42nd minute, when Suriya took a touch and lashed home after a Sathish Kumar cross from the right had found him in space inside the CCFC box.

CFC were good value for their two-goal lead at half-time. They continued to see more of the ball as the second half got underway.

Chennai City went down to ten men in the 55th minute, when Umesh S. was given his marching orders after receiving his second yellow card of the game.

Striker Yugan made the most of the momentum after the hour mark, when he made it 3-0 to CFC. It was an impressive solo goal that saw him receive the ball near the centre circle; then managing to dribble past four opponents before finding the back of the net.

Chennai City had a rare chance going forward in the 77th minute. And they managed to pull one back from it and make it 4-1, through Kishore D.

Despite CCFC’s best efforts, Chennaiyin showed composure in the following minutes. The latter’s fourth goal of the afternoon came five minutes from time, courtesy their central defender Sivamani. Skipper Deepak Thapamogar laid the ball off to Sivamani, who unleashed from distance to make it 4-1.

Score: Chennaiyin FC U-15s 4 (K. Suriya 27’, 42’; Yugan S. 66’; N. Sivamani 85’) beat Chennai City FC U-15s 1 (Kishore D. 77’)
