CFC 'B' through to the quarters

Chennaiyin FC’s ‘B’ team beat Viva Chennai in the Don Bosco – Fr. McFerran Trophy All India Football Tournament 2018 at Don Bosco Matriculation School, Red Hills here today. Fulganco Cardozo and Prosenjit Chakraborty netting the all-important goals for CFC ‘B’ in a 2-1 victory.

Fresh from a 1-0 triumph in their debut outing against ICF last time out, CFC began the match brightly and opened the scoring within the first five minutes. Skipper Cardozo with a free-kick from just outside the box, which took a slight deflection off an opposition player before finding the back of the net. Chennaiyin continued to see more of the ball after the goal but Viva Chennai made it 1-1 with practically the last kick of the first half. Shihad equalizing in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time with a superb bicycle kick after CFC ‘B’ had failed to clear the ball from a Viva Chennai throw-in.

Chennaiyin ‘B’ began the second-half strongly, much like they did in the first. And Prosenjit helped them regain the lead in the 68th minute courtesy a brilliant solo effort, that saw him beat a couple of opponents before cutting in and scoring from 25 yards.

CFC ‘B’ had a handful of good chances in the closing stages to add to their tally but it ended 2-1 in their favour.

The win sees CFC ‘B’ progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they face Bengaluru DFA on Tuesday 23rd January at 3:30 PM.
