Chennaiyin FC 'B' lose 3-1 to Bengaluru FC 'B'

Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ lost 3-1 to Bengaluru FC ‘B’ in a Second Division League fixture at the SSN College Ground here today. CFC ‘B’ made three changes from their narrow defeat to Jamshedpur FC Reserves last time out. Goalkeeper Samik Mitra, Fulganco Cardozo and Baoringdao Bodo were replaced by Joseph Lalsanglura along with new additions to the squad – Sayak Barai in goal and Abhishek V. Nair in midfield.

On a humid afternoon in their first home game of the Second Division League campaign, Chennaiyin had a glorious chance to take the lead in the opening minutes. B. Rohmingthanga caught hold of a loose ball and played Prosenjit Chakraborty in on goal, the latter’s shot parried by the BFC keeper Aditya Patra from close range.

Bengaluru then had a decent opportunity on 20 minutes when Leon Augustine’s purposeful run on the left ended in a cross that Parag Shrivas headed just over the CFC crossbar.

Two minutes later, Zonunmawia brought a flying save out of Patra; his teasing lob threatening to creep in but for the BFC goalie tipping it over.

Both teams were suspect in possession with half-time approaching. However BFC took the lead from a set-piece from the right flank. Altamash Sayed was unmarked at the far post, his first-time volley saved brilliantly by CFC keeper Sayak, who only managed to send it into the path of Prasanth Kalinga who tapped in the opener.

CFC striker Rohmingthanga had a chance to equalize immediately when he dispossessed a BFC player and rushed into the box, only for the keeper to push away his curling effort. Regaining possession, Bengaluru doubled their lead in the dying stages of the first half when Lamgoulen Hangshing toe-poked past an onrushing Sayak after the ball had trickled through the Chennaiyin defence.

CFC ‘B’ tried to claw their way back into the game in the second period. Substitute Bibin Boban had an effort saved from the edge of the box just after the hour mark. Altamash then went close for BFC with a snapshot before Rohmingthanga had yet another one-on-one chance thwarted by the BFC keeper.

The closing stages of the match saw more goals as Asheer Akhtar made it 3-0 to BFC with a long-ranger. But CFC finally pulled one back through Prosenjit’s swerving shot from distance that beat the keeper all ends up. It only proved to be a consolation as Bengaluru FC ‘B’ ran out 3-1 winners.

Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ play their next home game in the Second Division League when they take on Imphal’s Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC on Thursday April 12, 2018 at 4 PM at the SSN College Ground, Chennai.

Score: Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ 1 (Prosenjit Chakraborty 90+2’) lost to Bengaluru FC ‘B’ 3 (Prasanth Kalinga 40’, Lamgoulen Hangshing 45+2’, Asheer Akhtar 88’)
