Syed Sabir Pasha reminisces Abahani playing days on Dhaka return

Dhaka, Bangladesh: Chennaiyin FC take on Abahani Limited Dhaka in their 2019 AFC Cup Group E clash at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Wednesday evening. While it will be CFC’s first ever match in Bangladesh, a member of their contingent is no stranger to these parts. CFC Assistant Coach Syed Sabir Pasha played two seasons at Abahani (1999 and 2000).

The former India striker was greeted to a warm reception from the Abahani management and staff at CFC’s training session that took place at the latter’s premises on Monday. Pasha reconnected with former Abahani players who are now part of the club’s setup. The senior supporting staff members also instantly recognized Pasha and were elated to meet him.

“It is always a warm feeling to go back to the club one used to play for. It feels nice to meet my former teammates and other staff members who have been here all these years. To meet them and reconnect gives me immense joy. We instantly think about all the good times and memories we created playing together,” said a reminiscent Pasha.

Pasha especially became nostalgic at the sight of the player living quarters, showing the room he occupied back then to the CFC players and staff present.

Later as Chennaiyin’s training session ended, the local media present also quizzed him on his return. And then as the Chennaiyin team bus departed the premises, many of the Abahani staff members rushed to the gate to see off their former player.
