Heavy defeat for Chennaiyin FC 'B'

The Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ team suffered a 6-1 defeat against Bengaluru FC ‘B’ in their penultimate Second Division League match at the Bangalore Football Stadium here today. Skipper Prosenjit Chakraborty scored CFC’s only goal of the afternoon while Parag Shrivas starred for BFC with a hat-trick.

An upbeat CFC ‘B’ team entered this tie against their southern neighbours on the back of a 1-0 win over Mohammedan Sporting in their previous outing. They made two changes to the starting eleven – defender Mohammed Sarif Khan and midfielder Zonunmawia making way for Charles Britto and Bibin Boban respectively.

But it was BFC ‘B’ who got off to a good start, opening the scoring within the first five minutes. Nishu Kumar’s cross from the right found Parag Shrivas at the far post, who took a touch and scored, leaving CFC ‘B’ keeper Sayak Barai with no chance.

The CFC boys found it difficult to get past BFC’s high line and pressing, their passing letting them down in crucial positions. The latter controlled proceedings throughout the first half but the Chennaiyin defence stood strong, their center-back pairing of Saurabh Meher and Charles resolute along with wing-backs Hendry Antonay and Ajin Tom who made some vital blocks.

BFC however did manage to double their lead, the goal arriving on the cusp of half-time. It was Parag who scored again, completing his brace through a header from a Namgyal Bhutia cross from the left flank.

CFC made a change at the interval as Lalliansanga Renthlei replaced striker B. Rohmingthanga. But it was a similar story to that at the start of the first-half, as BFC made it 3-0 soon after the interval when Lalengzama Vangchhia converted after CFC gave the ball away in midfield.

Chennaiyin weren’t being allowed any time on the ball as Bengaluru continued to dominate. They went on to score two goals in two minutes soon after through Naorem Roshan Singh and Lalrintluanga Chawnglut, making it 5-0 in the process. Ten minutes later, Parag added another to complete his hat-trick.

This led to a double change in the CFC ranks, as striker Syed Suhail Pasha and winger Reamsochung ‘Remy’ Aimol replaced Aman Chetri and Charles respectively. And they were inspired changes that led to Chennaiyin pulling one back in the 78th minute through skipper Prosenjit Chakraborty, who scored from the rebound after Suhail’s shot was parried into his path by BFC keeper Calvin Abhishek.

Suhail continued to trouble the BFC defence, going close a couple of minutes later with a decent attempt at the end of a quick counter-attack. However the chances dried up in the closing stages as BFC completed a 6-1 win, thus completing the double over CFC having won the reverse fixture 3-1.

Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ will be looking to put this result behind them when they face Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC in their final Second Division League game on Wednesday May 9 at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal.
