Chennaiyin FC’s home venue for ISL 2020-21 to be GMC Athletic Stadium, Bambolim

Chennai, August 19, 2020: After the Indian Super League announced that the 2020-21 campaign will be conducted entirely in Goa, it has been confirmed that Chennaiyin FC will play their home matches at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. It was also conveyed by the organizers that the venue will be shared by CFC with Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters FC, and Odisha FC to serve the purpose as their home ground as well.

Hence Chennaiyin are set to play 12 games at this venue, comprising their nine home games and the three ‘away’ games against Mumbai, KBFC and Odisha. CFC are quite familiar with the stadium, having used it in previous seasons for practice sessions, including for the semi-final second-leg and final from the 2019-20 campaign.

The GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim was built in 2014 according to IAAF specifications to play host to the Lusofonia Games. The fully-equipped athletic complex has also been used by the AIFF developmental team Indian Arrows in the I-League, as well as the FC Goa B team in the Goa Pro League.

The grouping of teams at their respective ‘home’ venues has been done based on the league standings from last ISL season. FC Goa, ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC will play their home games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda; while Jamshedpur FC, NorthEast United FC and Hyderabad FC are set to contest their home ties at Tilak Maidan in Vasco.
