Dancing into a new year before our clash against Jamshedpur FC

It’s a new year and a new start. For some of us, the celebrations of the new year are still ringing as ‘an away trip’ to Jamshedpur looms! Talking about the celebrations, a quick look at those that celebrate using the art of rhythm.

Jamshedpur belongs to a state which is a concoction of some of the most vivid ethnic cultures in the country. Jharkhand is one of the richest hubs of tribal culture, and about 28% of the state’s population is of the tribal community.

Even as the years have passed and modernisation has taken over, their culture has managed to carry a bit of the past into the future by using music and dance!

The dance forms for the men are generally a celebration, maybe for a battle won or a successful harvest. It is an amalgamation of warrior like movements and animal or bird behaviour. On the other hand for the women the dance forms depict their everyday life on the fields or in the forest or at home.

These dance forms are further aided by musical instruments curated specially for this such as the Nagada, which is nothing but wood and stretched animal hide or the cylindrical Mandar.

Here’s to a victorious year ahead holding firm the values that make us who we are!
