Bengaluru, October 17, 2026: Chennaiyin FC went down 2-0 against Bengaluru FC in their Indian Super League 2026/27 South Indian derby at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, with Ryan Williams and Mihailo Perović scoring for the hosts.
Despite the rainy conditions, the Marina Machans made a positive start and looked to create opportunities in the attacking third. Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu tried his luck from distance in the seventh minute, before Ramon Tanque came close with an effort that narrowly missed the target. At the other end, goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz was called into action, making important saves to keep Bengaluru at bay in the opening exchanges.
Chennaiyin continued to build on their promising start, with Prakadeswaran using his pace down the flank to create an opportunity in the 18th minute. However, Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was on hand to deny the forward.
The hosts took the lead in the 24th minute when Williams reacted quickest to the rebound after Nawaz had saved Perović’s initial attempt, finishing into the top-right corner. Chennaiyin looked to respond, with Madih Talal attempting from distance and Ramon testing Gurpreet with a header from a Muhammed Saheef cross. Emmanuel Imanishimwe also threatened with a header from a Prakadeswaran delivery, while Nuno Reis and Ramon had further attempts as the visitors pushed for an equaliser before the break.
Chennaiyin resumed the second half looking to get back into the contest, but Bengaluru extended their advantage in the 52nd minute. Perović finished from close range after Borja Martínez delivered a cross into the box.
The Marina Machans continued to search for a response, with Prakadeswaran drawing another save from Gurpreet in the 55th minute following a pass from Talal. Chennaiyin maintained their efforts going forward, while Perović came close to adding a third for the hosts with a long-range attempt that went off target.
Head coach Clifford Miranda introduced Brison Fernandes, Bryce Miranda and Pachuau Laldinpuia as Chennaiyin looked to bring fresh energy into the attack. Talal tried his luck in the closing stages, before Jiteshwor Singh tested Gurpreet with a shot from outside the box in the 86th minute. Nawaz also produced a strong save to deny Sunil Chhetri as Bengaluru looked to extend their lead.
Chennaiyin continued to push until the final whistle, with Brison and Ramon making further attempts, but the visitors were unable to find a goal as Bengaluru secured the three points.
The Marina Machans will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on October 26 at the Salt Lake Stadium, where they will look to respond and return to winning ways.
