ISL 2024-25: Irfan, Chima Braces See Five-Star Chennaiyin FC Thrash Jamshedpur in Final Game

The Marina Machans did the double over the Red Miners to end the regular season on a positive note

Chennai, March 9, 2025: Two goals each from Irfan Yadwad and Daniel Chima Chukwu helped Chennaiyin FC to a 5-2 win over Jamshedpur FC in the final game of the Indian Super League 2024-25 regular season.

Rei Tachikawa put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute before goals from Chima Chukwu (25’) and Lukas Brambilla (45+3’) swung the tie in the Marina Machans’ favour. Irfan Yadwad scored his brace in the second half (57’, 90’) on either side of a Sanan Mohammed (62’) goal. Chima put the final flourish in second-half stoppage time (90+6’).

Samik Mitra returned between the posts for the final game of the season. Ankit Mukherjee, PC Laldinpuia, Elsinho, and Vignesh Dakshinamurthy made up the back four, while Farukh Choudhary partnered Jitendra Singh in midfield. Irfan and Brambilla occupied the wings, with Chima Chukwu and Wilmar Jordan Gil leading the line.

Jamshedpur drew first blood when Tachikawa scored from outside the box. However, Chennaiyin bounced back superbly at both ends, with Brambilla testing the goalkeeper with the cheeky free-kick, seconds before Samik made a flying stop. A surging run from Farukh drew defenders out of their positions, allowing Chima Chukwu to slot the ball home for the equaliser.

Four minutes later, Brambilla rounded the goalkeeper with an outstanding piece of skill but saw his effort cleared off the line by a defender. At the home end, Samik and Elsinho combined to keep out Sanan’s effort on the line. Chennaiyin’s persistence paid dividends at the cusp of the interval when Brambilla skipped past the defender with a stepover and arrowed the ball into the bottom corner. Seconds later, Irfan grazed the side netting with a close-range header.

The Marina Machans raced off the blocks in the second half and increased their lead to two goals when Irfan confidently put the ball past the goalkeeper after being sent through one-on-one by Farukh. Five minutes later, Sanan reduced Jamshedpur’s deficit with a thumping finish.

As the clock ticked ninety, Jordan Gil lobbed the ball over the Jamshedpur defence for Irfan to chase. The forward brought it down with a deft touch before poking it past the goalkeeper for his fifth of the season. Chima Chukwu then made it a brace for himself by beating the Jamshedpur offside trap and scoring with ease–making it six league goals for the season.

With the victory, Chennaiyin finished the ISL 2024-25 regular season with seven wins and 27 points.
